NASCAR: Bristol heat race starting lineup – Corey LaJoie on pole

Corey LaJoie is set to start from the pole position in the fourth and final heat race to set the starting lineup for the first NASCAR Cup Series dirt race in over five decades.

Four Saturday heat races are set to determine the starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race, the Food City Dirt Race, at Bristol Motor Speedway, and the starting lineups for those four races were set based on a random draw.

There are 10 drivers slated to competed in the first three heat races and nine set to compete in the fourth and final one, due to the fact that there are 39 cars on the entry list.

All four heat races are set to be 15-lap races around the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee ahead of Sunday’s 250-lap main event, which is slated to be the first Cup Series race on dirt in over 50 years.

Spire Motorsports’ Corey LaJoie is set to start from the pole position for the fourth and final heat race behind the wheel of his #7 Chevrolet.

Wood Brothers Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto is set to start alongside him on the front row in second place behind the wheel of his #21 Ford.

Rick Ware Racing’s Chris Windom, who has never competed in a Cup Series race, is set to start in third place behind the wheel of his #15 Chevrolet. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ross Chastain are set to round out the top five in fourth and fifth place in their #18 Toyota and #42 Chevrolet, respectively.

The starting lineup for Sunday’s main event is slated to be determined via a combination of the results of the four heat races and “passing points”.

The qualifying races for Sunday afternoon’s Food City Dirt Race are set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 from Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET. The Food City Dirt Race itself is set to be broadcast live on Fox beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
