The stage is set for the 2021 Formula 1 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain International Circuit following today’s qualifying session.

There was much anticipation leading up to today’s qualifying session for the 2021 Formula 1 season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix at Bahrain International Circuit, and that session did not disappoint.

The much-hyped battle between Red Bull and Mercedes lived up to its billing, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen taking the pole position for tomorrow’s 57-lap race around the 15-turn, 3.363-mile (5.412-kilometer) road course in Sakhir, Bahrain ahead of the Silver Arrows duo.

His best lap time of the third and final round of qualifying clocked in at 88.997 seconds, which was a sizable 0.388 seconds quicker than that of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in second place. Valtteri Bottas ended up a further 0.201 seconds behind Hamilton in third.

Charles Leclerc impressed in what he hopes will be a bounce-back year for Ferrari and is set to start in fourth place alongside Bottas.

There were five teams represented inside the top six, as Pierre Gasly drove his AlphaTauri to a fifth place starting position alongside McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo in sixth. Ricciardo’s teammate, Lando Norris, qualified in seventh alongside Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz Jr., in eighth.

The other two teams represented in the third and final round of qualifying were Alpine and Aston Martin. Fernando Alonso qualified in ninth place for the former while Lance Stroll qualified in 10th for the latter.
