The starting lineup is set for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway, with Martin Truex Jr. on the pole position.

For the 12th time through 13 races this season — but for the final time for the next several weeks — the starting lineup formula set the starting lineup for this Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway.

As a result of this formula, which is based on three factors (four in cases where there are driver changes), it is Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. who is slated to start Sunday afternoon’s Drydene 400 from the pole position behind the wheel of his #19 Toyota.

Take a look at how the starting lineup was determined.

  • 50% based on the finish in the most recent race
    • 25% (50% of the 50%) based on the driver’s finish
    • 25% (50% of the 50%) based on the car owner’s finish
  • 35% based on the team’s rank in owner standings
  • 15% based on the rank of the driver’s fastest lap in the most recent race

Truex is set to start from the pole position for this 400-lap race around the four-turn, 1.0-mile (1.609-kilometer) high-banked oval in Dover, Delaware after winning the most recent race at Darlington Raceway. In that race, he recorded the third fastest lap, and his #19 team sits in second place in the owner standings.

Points leader Denny Hamlin, one of Truex’s three teammates, is set to start alongside him on the front row behind the wheel of his #11 Toyota after finishing in fifth place at Darlington Raceway with the fifth fastest lap.

Teammates are set to make up the second row as well, with the Hendrick Motorsports duo of William Byron and Kyle Larson slated to start in third and fourth place behind the wheels of the #24 Chevrolet and #5 Chevrolet, respectively.

The first row not to feature two teammates is the third row, which is slated to feature Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick in fifth place behind the wheel of his #4 Ford and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch in sixth behind the wheel of his #18 Toyota.
