NASCAR: Kurt Busch penalized ahead of Charlotte race

Kurt Busch is set to drop to the rear of the field ahead of Sunday evening’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Coca-Cola 600.

The longest race of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season got a bit longer for Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kurt Busch, who is set to drop to the rear of the field ahead of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Busch, who was set to start this 400-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Concord, North Carolina in 12th place behind the wheel of his #1 Chevrolet, is set to drop to the tail end of the outside lane at the start of the event.

He was issued this penalty as a result of unapproved adjustments which were made to the #1 Chevrolet after yesterday morning’s single-car qualifying session.

Busch, who is effectively now set to start in 38th place in the 38-car field, is one of two drivers who is set to start the race from the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments, as the same penalty was issued to the #78 Live Fast Motorsports team.

B.J. McLeod, who was set to start the race in 33rd place behind the wheel of his #78 Ford, is set to drop to the tail end of the inside lane at the start of the event. He is effectively slated to start the race in 37th.
