Three drivers who entered the year without contracts for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season have already signed new deals for next year.

Following the news that Brad Keselowski leaving Team Penske and moving to Roush Fenway Racing is effectively a done deal for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, despite no official confirmation yet from the teams or the driver, it is clear that silly season is about to ramp up.

That was made even more clear when it was announced that Trackhouse Racing Team agreed to acquire Chip Ganassi Racing following the 2021 season, netting them an extra seat to fill alongside Daniel Suarez behind the wheel of the #99 Chevrolet.

There are still quite a few notable drivers who do not yet have deals to compete in the 2022 season, including Kurt Busch, Ryan Newman, Matt DiBenedetto and Aric Almirola.

But several drivers who entered 2021 without deals to compete next year have already signed new deals for the 2022 season, allowing them to avoid what is sure to be a crazy silly season ahead. Let’s take a look at who those three are.

Drivers who have already signed for 2022: No. 1 – Alex Bowman

Alex Bowman re-signing with Hendrick Motorsports for the 2022 season was always seen as a formality, something that Rick Hendrick said specifically following his win at Dover International Speedway, and it was officially confirmed before the race at Nashville Superspeedway last month that he has signed through 2023.

Bowman signed a one-year extension with the team in May 2020. It was later confirmed that he would be moving from the #88 Chevrolet to the #48 Chevrolet following Jimmie Johnson’s retirement, primarily because of the fact that Ally Financial had signed a full-time primary sponsorship agreement with the #48 team that runs through the 2023 season.

Now Bowman’s deal aligns with that of Ally, and his performance, which includes three wins so far in the 2021 season, has certainly justified that extension. All four Hendrick Motorsports drivers are under contract through at least 2022.
