This incident happened on the only off weekend between Formula 1’s tripleheader, which featured the French Grand Prix at Circuit Paul Ricard and two races, the Styrian Grand Prix and the Austrian Grand Prix, at the Red Bull Ring, and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit.

McLaren released the following statement on Monday regarding the incident and Norris’s condition afterward, indicating that the plan is still for him to compete in this Sunday’s race at his home circuit.

"“McLaren Racing can confirm that Lando Norris was involved in an incident, after the Euro 2020 final match at Wembley, during which the watch he was wearing was taken. Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken. The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend. As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further.”"

The 21-year-old Briton took to Instagram to provide an update on his condition, further indicating that he is still set to compete in Sunday’s race.

"“Hi world. Thanks for all the messages everyone. Really means a lot to see so many messages of kindness and love from you all. Thought I’d let you know that I’m doing well and trying to make sure I’m ready and in the right zone for this weekend to perform at my best. Love you all and can’t wait to see so many of you back at the track this weekend.”"

Through nine races this season, Norris has already scored more points than he did throughout the entire 17-race 2020 season. He sits in fourth place in the driver standings without a finish outside of the top eight, and he is the only driver who has scored points in every race so far this year.

His 14-race point-scoring streak goes back to last season and is seven races higher than the next best streak, which belongs to Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.
