NASCAR: There’s finally a new betting favorite to win a race
By Asher Fair
Kyle Larson has been the betting favorite for the last several NASCAR Cup Series oval races, but he is sharing that role this weekend.
The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the 22nd of 36 races on this year’s schedule this Sunday afternoon, the Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway,
This 301-lap race around the four-turn, 1.058-mile (1.703-kilometer) oval in Loudon, New Hampshire is the only race on this year’s schedule at the “Magic Mile” after the track lost its second race date to Las Vegas Motor Speedway following the 2017 season.
Last August’s race at the venue was won by Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski, but one notable driver did not compete in it: Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson.

Larson has been the betting favorite for the last six oval races heading into this weekend. He was the favorite to win at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, Pocono Raceway (twice), and Atlanta Motor Speedway.
He was also the favorite to win the All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway, which was contested between the races at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway (counting oval races only).
But WynnBET lists another driver as the co-favorite to win this Sunday afternoon’s race: Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr.
You have to go back to the race at Dover International Speedway two months ago to find the most recent oval race for which Larson was not the betting favorite, and Truex was the favorite to win that race.
For this weekend, both Larson and Truex have +450 odds.

Neither driver has won at the track before, but both have been strong. In 10 starts there, Larson has four top three finishes, including three runner-up results, and in 27 starts there, Truex has 12 top eight finishes, including three third place finishes.
Keselowski is listed as the fifth favorite at +600 behind Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin at +475 and Kyle Busch at +550.
This race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 18.
