The starting lineup is set for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series regular season finale, and the odds to win are about as crazy as expected.

For those with playoff aspirations, it all comes down to this. There is just one spot left open in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series playoff field.

The driver who gets that spot is set to be determined in this Saturday night’s regular season finale, the Coke Zero Sugar 400.

So while there is a points battle going on between Richard Childress Racing teammates Tyler Reddick and Austin Dillon for that 16th and final playoff spot, a new winner would get that spot over both drivers.

Where is the Coke Zero Sugar 400?

The Coke Zero Sugar 400 is a 160-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) high-banked Daytona International Speedway oval in Daytona Beach, Florida, a track which is known to produce surprise winners.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

If there is one track where starting lineup probably doesn’t matter as much, it is this one. But Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is set to start from the pole position behind the wheel of his #5 Chevrolet as a result of NASCAR’s starting lineup formula.

Larson, who sits 28 points ahead of Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin in the battle for the regular season championship, is set to start the race alongside teammate William Byron in second place behind the wheel of his #24 Chevrolet.

Daytona betting prediction

As mentioned above, Daytona International Speedway is a track that tends to produce surprise winners. Not since the 2016 season has the winner of the summer race at the track also won a non-superspeedway race in the same season, and each of the last two races at the track were won by a driver who entered that race with zero career victories.

Superspeedway races are easily the toughest to predict and thus the toughest to bet on. But in this case, with only two drivers listed with better odds than +1000, it might be a good idea to put money on a few drivers who have a decent chance to win.

There are going to be desperate drivers making desperate moves, specifically those who can’t make the playoffs without a win, so don’t just look toward the top of the odds to make your selections.

Denny Hamlin is certainly deserving of his status as the favorite, given his history not only at Daytona International Speedway but in superspeedway races in general. But considering the nature of superspeedway racing, +600 odds are generally odds you would should try to stay away from.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the 2017 winner of this race and the driver whose two career wins have both come in superspeedway races, could be a good selection at +1700. Bubba Wallace, the 2018 Daytona 500 runner-up and the fifth place finisher in last year’s summer race at the track, is an intriguing option at +1750. Chris Buescher always seems to be a contender in superspeedway races as well, and he is listed at +3000.
