The second race of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, is scheduled to take place at Jeddah Corniche Circuit as planned.

Despite legitimate doubts about the race taking place as scheduled, the 2022 Formula 1 season’s second event is indeed still due to take place tomorrow.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is the second of 23 races on the schedule after serving as the 21st of 22 races on last year’s schedule. Tomorrow’s race is set to be just the second ever at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the race last year ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to tie the championship standings heading into the final race of the season, but Mercedes don’t appear to have the pace this weekend under the new regulations.

Their car was well off the pace compared to Ferrari and Red Bull during the season-opening race weekend at Bahrain International Circuit, but they managed a surprise podium finish with Hamilton alongside the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. after both Verstappen and teammate Sergio Perez were forced to retire late with fuel pump issues.

Leclerc topped the speed chart in the third and final practice session for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix around the 27-turn, 3.837-mile (6.175-kilometer) temporary street circuit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with Verstappen in second place, Perez in third and Sainz in fourth.
