NASCAR: 2022 Texas All-Star Race – Full starting lineup
By Asher Fair
Following the All-Star Open, the full starting lineup is set for Sunday evening’s NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.
In addition to the 20 drivers who locked into the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway by meeting at least one of four requirements, four more drivers locked themselves into the race for $1 million early Sunday evening.
JTG Daugherty Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the first 20-lap stage of the 50-lap All-Star Open around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Fort Worth, Texas behind the wheel of his #47 Chevrolet, securing him the 21st place starting position in the 125-lap main event.
RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher won the second 20-lap stage of the qualifying race behind the wheel of his #17 Ford, securing him the 22nd place starting position.
Finally, Trackhouse Racing Team’s Daniel Suarez won the final 10-lap shootout of the qualifying race behind the wheel of his #99 Chevrolet, securing him the 23rd place starting position.
The fourth addition to the All-Star Race starting lineup was the winner of the All-Star Fan Vote. Petty GMS Motorsports’ Erik Jones received the most votes among the drivers not already locked into the race who still had raceable cars following the All-Star Open.
The starting positions for the 20 drivers already locked into the All-Star Race were determined on Saturday evening.
The fastest eight drivers in the initial single-car qualifying session moved on to an eight-driver bracket in which head-to-head matchups featured four-tire pit stops and then a one-lap sprint to the finish line. The drivers who finished the single-car session outside of the top eight locked into their starting positions.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch took the pole position (full results here) by winning all three of his head-to-head matchups in the second session.
