Keep tabs on the three separate qualifying sessions for Sunday night’s NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Cup Series is set for a non-points race this weekend following 13 straight weeks of points races to open up the 2022 season. Texas Motor Speedway is scheduled to host the annual All-Star Race (full format here) for $1 million on Sunday night.

Qualifying for the race is scheduled to take place on Saturday evening. Leading off is the qualifying session for the All-Star Open, featuring the 16 drivers who have not yet locked into the 125-lap main event around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) oval in Fort Worth, Texas.

These drivers are each set to make a single-lap qualifying attempt (single-car format), with the qualifying order determined by the owner standings.

The top eight drivers in this session move on to the final session, which features a three-round, elimination-style bracket. Two cars are matched up in side-by-side pit stalls near the end of the pits, and pit crews perform a four-tire stop. Without a speed limit, drivers then exit their pit stalls onto the track, and the first one to reach the finish line advances to the next round.

The four winners in the first round advance to the second round, and the two winners in the second round move on to the third round to battle for the pole position.

The four first round losers start from fifth to eighth place based on their initial qualifying speeds, and the two second round losers start in third and fourth based on their initial qualifying speeds. The third round loser occupies the front row with the polesitter.
