Keep tabs on Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series round of 16 playoff race at Kansas Speedway.

The second race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, the Hollywood Casino 400, is scheduled to take place at Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

The qualifying format for this race is the same format used for most oval races throughout the year, with drivers split up into two groups based on the results of the most recent race at Darlington Raceway and the order of each group determined by the qualifying formula (full breakdown here).

For the playoffs, the only change to the format is that the drivers (and teams) who are not eligible for the championship line up to qualify before those who remain in the title fight.

It is a single-car qualifying session, and each driver makes a single-lap attempt. The fastest five drivers in each group advance to the second and final round, where they each make another single-lap attempt to battle for the pole position.

The order of the top 10 in the starting lineup is determined by the speeds set in the second round, while the remainder of the lineup is determined by the speeds set in the first round, regardless of group.

Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the second of three round of 16 races.
