Tony Stewart won’t be in the broadcast booth for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas, but he is set to return later this year.

For the fourth time already this season, Tony Stewart was in the Fox Sports broadcast booth for last Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart had also joined the full-time duo of lead announcer Mike Joy and analyst Clint Bowyer for the Busch Light Clash preseason exhibition race at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the official season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, and the race at Auto Club Speedway.

Between the race at Auto Club Speedway and last Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Danica Patrick was in the booth for the races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.

Tony Stewart won’t be in the booth for this Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Circuit of the Americas.

This was a race for which the three-time Cup Series champion was in the booth last season, which was Fox’s first year using this new approach of bringing in different individuals to be guest analysts from race to race.

Fox opted to take this approach after Jeff Gordon left to focus on his then-new role as Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports following their 2021 portion of the broadcast schedule. They effectively kept the third seat free in 2023 so that they could bring in Kevin Harvick in 2024, once he has retired from driving.

Set to be in the booth for Sunday’s race are 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch and Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner. Chase Elliott, who is currently sidelined with a broken leg, is also set to join remotely. Nobody has been announced for the following Sunday’s race at Richmond Raceway (Fox Sports 1, 3:30 p.m. ET).

But Stewart isn’t done yet.

While he won’t be in the booth this or next Sunday, he is set to return in two weeks. He is set to be back in the booth for the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Easter Sunday, April 9 (Fox, 7:00 p.m. ET), the race at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, April 23 (Fox, 3:00 p.m. ET), and the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 28 (Fox, 6:00 p.m. ET).
