Tony Stewart is set to return to the Fox booth for this coming Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

After Bobby Labonte was in the Fox broadcast booth for this past Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, Tony Stewart is set to return for this coming Sunday afternoon’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, marking his sixth appearance of the 2023 season.

Stewart made his most recent appearance alongside the full-time duo of lead announcer Mike Joy and analyst Clint Bowyer on Easter Sunday, April 9 at Bristol Motor Speedway for the series’ annual dirt race. Before that, he hadn’t been in the booth since the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stewart called the season’s first three races, including the Busch Light Clash preseason exhibition race at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. He was also in the booth for official season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and the following weekend’s race at Auto Club Speedway.

Danica Patrick replaced him for the next two races at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway before he returned at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Two races took place between Stewart’s appearances at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway. At Circuit of the Americas, Fox brought in Kurt Busch, Haas Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner, and Chase Elliott (remotely), and at Richmond Raceway, Fox analyst Larry McReynolds made his return to the booth for the first time since last June.

Beyond this Sunday, Stewart is only currently set to join Fox one more time during their portion of the 2023 broadcast schedule. He is set to return for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 28.

Next year, Fox is set to go back to using three full-time announcers, as they did in 2021 before Jeff Gordon left to focus on his then-new role as Vice Chairman at Hendrick Motorsports. Kevin Harvick is set to join the full-time team in 2024 after wrapping up his 23-year driving career at the end of the 2023 season.
