Follow along with our live qualifying updates for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, the GEICO 500.

The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the first of two races at Talladega Superspeedway this season, with the GEICO 500 scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon.

This race, the 10th of 36 races on the 2023 schedule, is set to be a 188-lap race around the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked Lincoln, Alabama oval.

Drivers are not split up into groups for qualifying at superspeedways. The qualifying order is set via the metric, which takes into account the driver’s result in the most recent race (25%), the car owner’s result in the most recent race (25%), the car’s rank in the owner standings (35%), and the rank of the driver’s fastest lap in the most recent race (15%).

For drivers who drive the same cars from race to race, the first two categories are combined to create one large category weighted at 50%.

All 38 drivers on the entry list for this race are set to make a single-lap qualifying attempt, and the fastest 10 drivers in the first round are set to advance to the second round, where additional single-lap attempts are set to determine how the top 10 line up.
