The NASCAR Cup Series is set for the YellaWood 500, the second of three races in the round of 12 of the playoffs at Talladega Superspeedway.

Talladega Superspeedway is set to host its second race of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season this Sunday afternoon. The YellaWood 500 is largely viewed as the biggest “wild card” of the playoffs, and it can make or break a driver’s chances to advance to the round of 8.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron is already locked into the semifinal round after winning the round of 12 opener at Texas Motor Speedway with a late pass on 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace, but the other seven spots are still open.

And the playoff picture heading into the round of 12 finale at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval could look a lot different than it does now.

Sunday’s race is scheduled to be a 188-lap race around the four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked Lincoln, Alabama oval. Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch, who remains in playoff contention, won at the track back in April.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, who did not make the playoffs, is the reigning winner of the YellaWood 500, and his No. 9 team remains in the owner playoffs.

The starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s is set to be determined by Saturday’s single-car qualifying session. The 10 drivers with the fastest single-lap average speeds in the first round advance to the second round to battle for the pole position.
