After entering the offseason between the 2026 and 2027 IndyCar seasons with neither one of their two drivers under contract to return next year, A.J. Foyt Enterprises have solidified a full lineup overhaul.
About a month and a half after confirming that former Dale Coyne Racing driver Dennis Hauger is set to replace Santino Ferrucci behind the wheel of the No. 14 Chevrolet next year, the team have now announced that Josh Pierson is set to replace Caio Collet behind the wheel of the No. 4 Chevrolet as well.
Ferrucci spent four seasons with the team while Collet spent only one, his rookie year. Hauger spent one season with Dale Coyne Racing, also as a rookie, while Pierson competed in Indy NXT from 2023 to 2026.
The Pierson announcement makes Foyt's team the second to solidify their driver lineup this offseason. Chip Ganassi Racing is the other, having announced that ex-Arrow McLaren driver Christian Lundgaard is set to replace the Arrow McLaren-bound Scott Dixon behind the wheel of the No. 9 Honda next year.
2 IndyCar teams still need drivers for 2027
And with that, just two teams still have vacancies to fill before the 2027 season. Neither team has even made a single confirmation.
Those two teams are Dale Coyne Racing and Juncos Hollinger Racing. Dale Coyne Racing have already lost Hauger, and Romain Grosjean's future remains uncertain. They remain a viable landing spot for reigning Indy NXT champion Nikita Johnson.
As for Juncos Hollinger Racing, it's really a battle for one seat, as Rinus VeeKay returning for a second season behind the wheel of the No. 76 Chevrolet seems like a foregone conclusion after an impressive 2026 season. But Sting Ray Robb won't return to the No. 77 Chevrolet, and VeeKay's success with the team has proven the upside of that seat.
This ride has also been linked to Johnson, along with a number of others, including Nolan Siegel after he lost his ride with Arrow McLaren ride and Callum Ilott, who previously competed for the team from 2021 to 2023 and did not compete in the series at all in 2026.
The 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, March 7 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, with live coverage from the streets of St. Petersburg set to be provided by Fox.
