Kansas Speedway hosted a race that was won by 23XI Racing's Tyler Reddick back in mid-April, and while Reddick hasn't won since, his five victories still lead all drivers through the first 29 races of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.
But Reddick's championship chances are fading heading into Sunday's 267-lap race Hollywood Casino 400 at the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Kansas City, Kansas oval, where he hopes to get back to victory lane and trim the 61-point deficit he currently faces to Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson, who took the points lead from Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin with a runner-up finish at Bristol Motor Speedway one week ago.
Larson's lead marks the first time somebody other than Reddick or Hamlin has led the standings this year. But will the Toyotas get back to their regular season form as the Cup Series kicks off a crucial three-race stretch at 1.5-mile ovals (Kansas, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and Charlotte Motor Speedway)?
As has unfortunately become the norm, qualifying was canceled due to inclement weather for this race, marking the third time in four playoff races the metric has been required to determine the starting lineup.
Bristol winner Joey Logano of Team Penske took the pole position and joined Larson on the front row, with Hamlin sixth and Reddick 15th.
