It's rare that a NASCAR team has negative points, but that is the case for MBM Motorsports due to a penalty that was issued following the race at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Despite the fact that Jonathan Shafer failed to qualify the No. 69 MBM Motorsports Ram, in what was Ram's first appearance in the Craftsman Truck Series with a team other than Kaulig Racing since 2016, the team was still found to have committed a safety violation during pre-qualifying inspection, relating to the shifter boot.
That resulted in a 25-point deduction, bringing the team to -14 total points in 2026. Shafer's disqualification, his third in three attempts this year, was the team's fifth overall, and they had only managed to rack up 11 total points in their three actual starts with Tyler Tomassi at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway), Derek White on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Dystany Spurlock at Dover Motor Speedway.
MBM Motorsports set for return after penalty takes them to negative points
While Spurlock returned for this past weekend's race at Richmond Raceway, she competed for Team Reaume in collaboration with MBM; Carl Long's No. 69 truck did not actually appear on the entry list. But this week, it is set to return for its ninth appearance of the season in the regular season finale at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
White is set return for the first time since his 35th place DNF in St Petersburg back in February, but it will be an uphill battle for him to qualify in Loudon, since there are 41 trucks set to battle for 36 spots. While the truck is once again a Ram this weekend, the "new OEM provisional" only applied for the season's first three races.
The team's five DNQs so far this season came at Daytona International Speedway with Tomassi, Rockingham Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway, and Indianapolis with Shafer, and Watkins Glen International with Spurlock.
They have yet to confirm plans to run any of the seven races on the upcoming postseason calendar.
Saturday's Team EJP 175 is set to be shown live on Fox Sports 1 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET. Start a free trial of FuboTV today and catch all of the action from the "Magic Mile"!
