While some might take the news of Kyle Busch receiving complaints from Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials for doing a burnout on the historic bricks at IMS as not really news worthy, there’s a lot more to it then fans may think

The news of Kyle Busch receiving complaints from NASCAR and IMS officials for his burnout on the bricks is sure to create a huge rift between traditional fans and fans of the Joe Gibbs Racing driver. Especially with the how popular Busch has become since winning four of the last five races in The Sprint Cup Series.

While traditional fans will probably think that Busch is back to his old antics and has no respect for the sport he is supposed to represent, fans of Busch will cry foul over the hatred of their favorite driver and blow it off as just Kyle Busch putting his own style into his celebration.

If NASCAR is smart, they will capitalize on stories like these and further this rift between fans of the sport. To do this, NASCAR needs to stop relying on the golden boy’s comeback-storyline for Busch and start to talk about the disrespect that Busch has shown to NASCAR over the years. This will make Busch fans more determined to root their hero on, but will also create a healthy level of opposition who will want to see anyone but Kyle Busch take the checkered flag on Sunday.

As a traditional fan myself, I find Busch’s antics deplorable and indicative of how little he has changed after his injury at Daytona. While many fans might show pity and respect for tremendous comeback in the sport, they also need to think about the disrespect that Busch showed to The Brickyard bricks at IMS.

A real NASCAR driver would never disrespect such a historic race track in that manner. Whether he did it out of malice or pure stupidity doesn’t matter. What does matter, is that NASCAR fans must now do a collective gut check and ask themselves if they can really justify rooting for such a driver.

It all comes down to this. Do you respect the sport, or do you love Kyle Busch. I know forcing fans to make a choice like this is a little bizarre, but I also believe that by rooting for Kyle Busch at this point, you are showing the sport of NASCAR and everything it was built on a huge deal of disrespect. I can only hope that you can look yourself in the mirror at night, because I sure would be able to.

Look yourself in the mirror. I dare you! Try to justify his actions at Indianapolis. You can’t, can you? Just like his disrespect of the guitar trophy at Nashville years ago, just like his disrespect of Dale Jr. at Richmond in 2008, just like every other instance in his life, Busch has shown that he has no respect for the sport he races in. So why root for a guy like that?
