IndyCar: Oriol Servia to drive for Scuderia Corsa and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in Indianapolis 500
By Asher Fair
Oriol Servia is set to return to IndyCar in this year’s Indianapolis 500 for Scuderia Corsa and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Oriol Servia has been confirmed as Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s third driver for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 in a joint effort with Scuderia Corsa this May. He is set to drive the #64 Honda in the race. Servia, 43, has not been a full-time IndyCar driver since the 2012 season, but he has driven in the Indianapolis 500 in each of the last seven seasons.
In three of the last four years, Servia has driven in the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. He failed to finish two of those three races, with his lone finish coming in the 2014 race. He finished in 11th place after starting in 18th in that particular race.
In the 2016 season, Servia drove for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the race as a result of the fact that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing signed Spencer Pigot as the team’s second driver alongside their lone full-time driver, Graham Rahal. Servia finished the race in 12th place after starting in 10th.
This season, both Graham Rahal and 2017 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato are set to drive for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as full-time drivers, so Servia is set to be the team’s third driver for the Indianapolis 500.
In nine career Indianapolis 500 starts, Servia has finished the race six times. All three of his DNF’s have come in his four races for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. These four races include the 2009 race when he drove for the team when they were named Rahal Letterman Racing. He also drove for the team in the race in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Of Servia’s six Indianapolis 500 finishes, just two have been top 10 finishes. However, the other four finishes have been either 11th or 12th place finishes, which proves just how consistent he is at the the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.
Servia’s career-high Indianapolis 500 finish is 4th place, which he pulled off in the 2012 edition of the race despite the fact that he started the race in a career-worst 27th. His other top 10 finish in the race came in the 2011 edition after he started the race in a career-high 3rd. He finished that race in 6th.
