Four-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton again finds himself the subject of controversy after making his recent comments about the lack of diversity in the sport.

Four-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, 33, is no stranger to controversy when it comes to issues revolving around politics and political correctness, which may very well bode well for him seeing as how he is back in the spotlight for an issue revolving around this topic.

In 2011, Hamilton was penalized during the Monaco Grand Prix and claimed that “maybe it’s because I’m black”. This past Christmas, he posted a video on his Instagram story of him telling his four-year-old nephew that “boys don’t wear princess dresses”.

Both of these occurrences were met with tons of criticism toward the four-time and defending Formula 1 champion. Here is a video of the occurrence with involving Hamilton and his nephew, Kaiden.

In response to the backlash that he received for making these comments, Hamilton posted an apology. However, he faced even more backlash when it was discovered that he ended up liking several tweets that stated he did nothing wrong in the first place. In fact, Hamilton even removed himself from social media for a time as a result of the criticism that he faced as a result of this situation as a whole.

Hamilton has since come back to social media, as evidenced by the fact that he published his most recent controversial video on his Instagram story once again.

This time, right before the start of the 2018 Formula 1 season, Hamilton has made more controversial remarks, which will more than likely cause a stir, about diversity in the sport. As stated above, he posted another video on his Instagram story, and this video featured words written over it. Here are the words he wrote over this video, according to ESPN.

"“There’s barely any diversity in F1. Still nothing’s changed in 11 years I’ve been here. Kids, people, there’s so many jobs in this sport of which anybody, no matter your ethnicity or background, can make it and fit in. #diversity #youcandoit"

An opinionated article about these remarks will follow.

Will there be any major backlash over these comments that Lewis Hamilton made like there have been for many other political comments that he has made over the years? This will certainly be an interesting situation to monitor, especially since the 2018 Formula 1 season starts in two days and especially given Hamilton’s history in making remarks that end up causing the public to criticize him. Tune in to ESPN to watch the season opener, the Australian Grand Prix, at 1:10 am ET on Sunday, March 25th.
