Indy 500: Second Dreyer & Reinbold Racing driver set to be announced Thursday
By Asher Fair
The second driver for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the 2018 Indy 500 is set to be officially announced on Thursday, April 12th.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are finally set to officially confirm which driver will be the second IndyCar driver for the team in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana this May.
Sage Karam, 23, has already been confirmed as the driver of the #24 Chevrolet for the team, and the team have already confirmed that they will, in fact, be fielding two entries in the race for the first time since the 95th running of the Indy 500 back in 2011 when they fielded four entries.
In the 2011 season, Davey Hamilton, Ana Beatriz, Paul Tracy and the late Justin Wilson drove for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in the Indy 500. Oriol Servia then drove for the team in the 2012 Indy 500 and the 2013 Indy 500. In the 2014 Indy 500, 2016 Indy 500 and 2017 Indy 500, Sage Karam drove for the team, and in the 2015 Indy 500, Townsend Bell drove for the team.
The favorite to be the second driver for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in this year’s Indy 500 is J.R. Hildebrand, who drove for the team in his first two career IndyCar races back in the 2010 season and has driven in each of the last seven Indy 500 races.

In fact, it was announced several weeks ago that it was not a matter of if Hildebrand would be confirmed as the second driver for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in this year’s running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”; it was only a matter of when.
That “when” is set to be Thursday, April 12th, which will make Hildebrand, barring any unforeseen circumstances that involve Dreyer & Reinbold Racing signing a different driver, the second driver for the team and the 36th driver to officially enter the 102nd running of the Indy 500, meaning that at least three drivers who show up to qualify for the race will not actually get to drive in the race itself because of the fact that the time-honored tradition of 33 drivers in the field is set to stand.
