2018 Indy 500: Sunday qualifying – Live updates

Here are live updates from Sunday’s qualifying session for the 102nd running of the Indy 500, which is set to take place next Sunday.

The second of two days of qualifying for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500, the sixth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, has begun, and it is set to last from 2:45 p.m. ET all the way to 5:45 p.m. ET this evening.

After 35 drivers attempted to become one of the 33 drivers to make the field yesterday, the 33 drivers who qualified for the field are battling in two separate groups in today’s qualifying session at the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.

The first of those two groups is for the drivers who finished from 10th through 33rd place on the speed chart in yesterday’s qualifying session. They will have one qualifying attempt each today to try to start the race as high as 10th. They are all guaranteed to make the field.

The second of those two groups is for the drivers who finished from first through ninth place on the speed chart in yesterday’s qualifying session. They will have one qualifying attempt each today to try to start the race on the pole position. They can start the race in no lower than ninth.
