The ninth race of the 2018 IndyCar season is the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. Here is the entry list for that race.

The DXC Technology 600, which is the ninth race of the 17-race 2018 IndyCar season, is set to take place at the four-turn, 1.44-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval in Fort Worth, Texas this Saturday, June 9.

Only 22 drivers are set to drive in the DXC Technology 600. The driver total of 22 is the lowest of any race so far in the 2018 IndyCar season. The previous low was 23 drivers, which was the size of the entry list in four of the first eight races of the season.

Those four races were the second race of the season at ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona in April, the fourth race of the season at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama in April, and the two races, which were the seventh and eighth races of the season, on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan earlier this month.

More from IndyCar

The last IndyCar race that featured only 22 drivers was last year’s season finale at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California.

But while this driver total of 22 seems low, it would have tied for second highest behind only the Indianapolis 500 last year. Of the 16 non-Indy 500 races that were contested last year, six featured 22 drivers and 10 featured 21 drivers. It also would have tied for third highest behind only the Indy 500 and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in the 2016 season. Of the other 14 races that were contested in the 2016 season, 12 featured 22 drivers and two featured 21 drivers.

The last season during which a driver total of 22 for an individual race would have been the lowest in the season is the 2015 season. No fewer than 23 drivers entered any of the 2015 season’s 16 races.

The fact that a driver total of 22 in a race is the lowest driver total of any race through nine races so far this season shows that IndyCar is growing, as for the first time since the 2015 season, entry lists for races are regularly featuring 23 or 24 drivers.
