Conor Daly is set to return to Harding Racing for the 13th race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Honda Indy 200, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

After recording the highest finish of the 2018 IndyCar season for Harding Racing in the season’s 12th race, the Honda Indy Toronto, Conor Daly is set to return to the cockpit of the #88 Harding Racing Chevrolet in this Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Daly, who has driven in just two races this season and just one for Harding Racing, finished the Honda Indy Toronto in 13th place last Sunday. The team’s full-time driver, Gabby Chaves, the driver who Daly replaced, did not finished higher than 14th in any of the season’s first 11 races.

The 25-year-old Colombian finished in 14th in the season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, and in the Indianapolis 500. While the Honda Indy 200 is set to be the second race in a row during which he has not driver for the team, the team have not released him and they still plan to have him back next year, potentially as a teammate to a second driver.

Here is what Harding Racing team president Brian Barnhart had to say about Daly returning to the cockpit of the #88 Chevrolet in this Sunday’s race, according to RACER.

"“After the progress made during the Toronto race weekend, we had another successful outing in Mid-Ohio with Conor Daly. Based on that and in the interest of continuity and moving forward, we are going to run Conor again this weekend for the Honda Indy 200.“We still appreciate Gabby’s cooperation and interaction because he is still very much involved with downloads, team debriefs and dialogue. In our search for more information and improvement, this will be our direction for Mid-Ohio, with an eye towards the future.”"

Daly, whose only other race this season was the Indianapolis 500, a race in which he drove the #17 Dale Coyne Racing Honda and finished in 21st place, has had past success in two races at the 13-turn, 2.258-mile (3.634-kilometer) Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

In the 2016 season, the 26-year-old American finished in sixth place in the race driving the #18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda after a pit strategy gamble put him at the front of the field and allowed him to lead 22 of the race’s 90 laps after starting all the way back in 22nd. This sixth place finish was one of his five top six finishes in 2016.

Last season, Daly finished in 10th place in the Honda Indy 200 driving his #14 A.J. Foyt Enterprises Chevrolet after starting in 11th. This 10th place finish was one of his four top 10 finishes in 2017.
