Will Power has won his last two IndyCar races at Pocono Raceway. Will he win his third race in a row at the track this Sunday?

Team Penske’s Will Power has won both of the last two IndyCar races in which he has driven at Pocono Raceway in his #12 Chevrolet. He is set to attempt to win his third consecutive IndyCar race at the track in this Sunday’s race, which is the 2018 ABC Supply 500.

The last IndyCar race that was held at the three-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Pocono Raceway triangle in Long Pond, Pennsylvania that was not won by Power was held in August of 2015. Power started that race in third place and finished in fourth after leading two of its 200 laps.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay won that race in his #28 Honda, and as a result of that, he is the most recent winner of a Pocono race among drivers who are not named Will Power.

Power won the race at Pocono Raceway in August of 2016 after he started back in eighth place and led 55 of its 200 laps. He held off second place finisher and race polesitter Mikhail Aleshin by 1.146 seconds to take the victory, which was his first career IndyCar victory at the track in his fourth career IndyCar race at the track.

Last August, Power claimed his second career victory and second consecutive IndyCar victory at Pocono Raceway. He started the race in fifth place and went on to win it by 0.527 seconds over second place finisher Josef Newgarden after leading 34 of its 200 laps.

Even before his two-race winning streak at Pocono Raceway began, Power had performed impressively at the track. He finished in fourth place in his first career race at the track in 2013 after leading 15 of its 160 laps and he had a chance to win the race in 2014, but he squandered that chance with a late blocking move that earned him a penalty. He finished that race in 10th after leading 69 of its 200 laps.

Power returned to the track in 2015 and, as referenced above, finished in fourth place after leading two of its 200 laps. There is no reason to believe that he cannot win his third consecutive race at the track this Sunday, especially with his recent success on all superspeedways.

Since last season, Power has won at each of the three superspeedways (Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Pocono Raceway) that IndyCar visits. He has led laps in each of his five career races at Pocono Raceway as well. While there are many drivers who have a good chance to win at Pocono Raceway this Sunday, Power has to be considered the favorite.
