IndyCar: Will Power takes pole for 2018 Grand Prix of Portland

Will Power took the pole position for the penultimate race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the Grand Prix of Portland, at Portland International Raceway.

Team Penske’s Will Power took the pole position for the Grand Prix of Portland, the 16th race on the 17-race 2018 IndyCar schedule. This pole position is his fourth of the season and 54th of his career, which moves him ahead of A.J. Foyt for second place on the all-time IndyCar poles list.

Power took the pole position for the 105-lap race around the 12-turn, 1.967-mile (3.166-kilometer) Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon by recording a top lap time of 57.3467 seconds (123.481 miles per hour) in the Firestone Fast Six, the third and final round of qualifying, in his #12 Chevrolet.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden qualified in second place for the race in his #1 Chevrolet, giving Chevrolet and Team Penske a front row sweep on the starting grid.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi is the highest qualifying Honda driver of the race. He qualified in third place in his #27 Honda. Honda drivers took each of the nine starting positions from third through 11th.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais qualified in fourth place in his #18 Honda. Andretti Autosport teammates Ryan Hunter-Reay, Zach Veach and Marco Andretti (Andretti Herta Autosport) in fifth, sixth and ninth in their #28 Honda, #26 Honda and #98 Honda, respectively.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe qualified in seventh place in his #5 Honda. Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Ed Jones and Scott Dixon qualified in ninth and 11th in their #10 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal qualified in 10th in his #15 Honda.

Ed Carpenter Racing rookie Jordan King is the highest qualifying non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of the race. He qualified in 12th place in his #20 Chevrolet.
