IndyCar: James Hinchcliffe tops second 2019 Barber practice session

James Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in the second practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s third race, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season’s third race, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, at Barber Motorsports Park.

Hinchcliffe topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 68.9994 seconds (124.175 miles per hour) around the the 17-turn, 2.38-mile (3.830-kilometer) Barber Motorsports Park natural terrain road course in Birmingham, Alabama in his #5 Honda.

Hinchcliffe let a top six sweep by Honda drivers in this practice session, as Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta, Dale Coyne Racing teammates Santino Ferrucci, a rookie, and Sebastien Bourdais, and Andretti Autosport teammates Alexander Rossi rounded out the top six by finishing in second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth place in their #88 Honda, #19 Honda, #18 Honda, #27 Honda and #28 Honda, respectively.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot and Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward were the highest finishing Chevrolet drivers in this practice session. They finished in seventh and eighth place in their #21 Chevrolet and #31 Chevrolet, respectively.

Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon rounded out the top 10 in this practice session by finishing in ninth and 10th place in their #98 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively, giving Honda drivers eight of the top 10 positions on the speed chart.

Will Power was the lone Team Penske driver who finished the practice session in the top 14. He finished in 11th in his #12 Chevrolet. His two teammates, Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden, finished in 15th and 18th in their #22 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, who topped the speed chart in the first practice session for this Sunday’s race, finished this session in 17th place in his #10 Honda.

The lone remaining practice session for is scheduled to air live on NBC Sports Gold tomorrow morning beginning at 11:45 a.m. ET. Qualifying for the race is scheduled to air live on NBC Sports Network later tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. ET.

NBC Sports Gold is scheduled to air the race warmup session live on Sunday, April 7 beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET, and NBC Sports Network is scheduled to air the race itself live later that afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. ET.
