IndyCar: Ed Jones tops no-tow speed chart in first 2019 Indianapolis 500 practice

Ed Jones topped the no-tow speed chart in the first practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s sixth race, the Indianapolis 500, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa’s Ed Jones topped the no-tow speed chart in the opening practice session for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, which is the sixth race on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

All 35 of the drivers who participated in this practice session completed at least one lap without a tow. These 35 drivers occupied 36 positions on the no-tow speed chart.

Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe completed at least one lap without a tow driving not only his #5 Honda but the #60 Honda of partial teammate Jack Harvey of Meyer Shank Racing.

Jones topped the no-tow speed chart with a top lap time of 40.0816 seconds (224.542 miles per hour) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana in his #63 Chevrolet, and he led a top five Chevrolet sweep of the speed chart.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s J.R. Hildebrand, A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan, Carlin’s Charlie Kimball and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter rounded out the top five on the no-tow speed chart in this practice session by finishing in second, third, fourth and fifth place in their #48 Chevrolet, #14 Chevrolet, #23 Chevrolet and #20 Chevrolet, respectively.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi was the fastest Honda drivers of this practice session without a tow. He finished in sixth place in his #27 Honda.

Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais, Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato rounded out the top 10 on the no-tow speed chart in this practice session by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #18 Honda, #21 Chevrolet, #88 Honda and #30 Honda, respectively.
