A total 22 drivers are set to compete in the eighth race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race 2, tying the season-low.

A season-low total of 22 drivers competed in today’s IndyCar race, Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race 1, at the Raceway on Belle Isle after only one of the 17-race season’s first six races featured fewer than 24 drivers.

The only one of the season’s first six races that featured fewer than 24 drivers was the fourth race on the streets of Long Beach, California, which featured a season-low 23 drivers.

The same 22 drivers who competed in this afternoon’s Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race 1 are set to compete in tomorrow’s race, Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix Race 2, at the same 14-turn, 2.35-mile (3.782-kilometer) Raceway on Belle Isle temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan, tying the season low driver total for a race.

Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward and Ed Carpenter Racing Scuderia Corsa’s Ed Jones are the only two part-time drivers who are set to compete in this race, although Jones has not missed any races yet this season.

Meanwhile, O’Ward has missed two of the season’s first seven races. He missed the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida as well as the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a race for which he failed to qualify.

All 20 of the sport’s full-time drivers are set to compete in this race. Carlin’s Max Chilton, another driver who failed to qualify for the Indy 500, is the only one of these 20 full-time drivers who is set to compete in this race without having compete in each of the season’s first seven races.
