Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the first practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s ninth race, the DXC Technology 600, at Texas Motor Speedway.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the rain-shortened opening practice session for the race that marks the halfway point of the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season, the DXC Technology 600, at Texas Motor Speedway.

Dixon topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 23.6380 seconds (219.308 miles per hour) around the four-turn, 1.44-mile (2.317-kilometer) high-banked Texas Motor Speedway oval in Fort Worth, Texas in his #9 Honda before monsoon-like rains caused the remaining one-plus hour of the two-hour session to be canceled.

Dixon led a top three sweep by Honda drivers in this practice session, as Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing teammates Takuma Sato and Graham Rahal finished in second and third place in their #30 Honda and #15 Honda, respectively.

The top Chevrolet driver of this practice session was a bit of a surprise, as it was Carlin’s Charlie Kimball in fourth place in his #23 Chevrolet. Kimball did take the pole position for the race at Texas Motor Speedway in the 2017 season, but he was driving for Chip Ganassi Racing at the time, and Carlin have consistently been the slowest team in the field since entering IndyCar last season.

Team Penske’s Will Power rounded out the top five by finishing in fifth place in his #12 Chevrolet ahead of four more Honda drivers.

Andretti Autosport teammates Alexander Rossi, Zach Veach and Ryan Hunter-Reay finished in sixth, eighth and ninth place in their #27 Honda, #26 Honda and #28 Honda, respectively, with Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta, their teammate by technical alliance, splitting up the group by finishing in seventh in his #88 Honda.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter rounded out the top 10 by finishing in 10th place in his #20 Chevrolet, meaning that two of the top three Chevrolet drivers in this practice session have combined to compete in only three races so far this season.
