Ross Chastain got redemption for his disqualification last week by winning the NASCAR Truck Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, the Gateway 200.

Last week, Niece Motorsports’ Ross Chastain appeared to be on his way to the 2019 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs after winning the race at Iowa Speedway. But following his victory, his truck failed post-race inspection, and he was disqualified, nullifying his dominant victory. Niece Motorsports appealed this penalty, but this appeal was unsuccessful.

But Chastain bounced back and won Saturday night’s Truck Series race, the Gateway 200, at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway (formerly Gateway Motorsports Park) to all but lock up a playoff berth once again with five races remaining in the 16-race regular season.

Chastain, who started this 160-lap race around the the four-turn, 1.25-mile (2.012-kilometer) World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway oval in Madison, Illinois in seventh place in his #45 Chevrolet, won it by 0.704 seconds over Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Todd Gilliland in second in his #4 Toyota.

Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen finished in third place in his #52 Chevrolet ahead of Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Chandler Smith and GMS Racing’s Brett Moffitt in fourth and fifth in their #46 Toyota and #24 Chevrolet, respectively.

ThorSport Racing’s Grant Enfinger was the highest finishing Ford driver of the race. He finished in sixth place in his #98 Ford. GMS Racing’s Sheldon Creed and ThorSport Racing teammates Ben Rhodes, Matt Crafton and Myatt Snider rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th in their #2 Chevrolet, #99 Ford, #88 Ford and #13 Ford, respectively.

Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Christian Eckes, who had the fastest truck for the better part of the third and final stage after starting from the pole position, entered the final lap in second place before he spun out in turns one and two after contact with Friesen. He finished in a disappointing 14th in his #51 Toyota.

Chastain got to the front on a late pit stop when he gambled and took fuel only while everybody else at the front took two tires. He took the lead at this point and held on to earn his third victory of the season, his second official victory of the season (assuming his #45 Chevrolet passes post-race inspection) and his first official victory since declaring for Truck Series points in early June.

This race featured a total of 13 lead changes among eight drivers. Aside of Chastain, who led 21 laps of the race, seven other drivers led at least one lap. These drivers were Friesen, Enfinger, Crafton, Eckes, Hattori Racing Enterprises’ Austin Hill, Niece Motorsports’ Kyle Benjamin and Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Harrison Burton.

Eckes led more laps than anybody else in the field with 57 laps led. Enfinger won both stages one and two.

This race also featured a total of three incident-related caution flag periods and two caution flag periods that took place as a result of the usual endings of stages one and two. Of the 32 drivers who started the race, 25 finished it. Of the 25 drivers who finished the race, 16 finished on the lead lap.
