IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops first 2019 Toronto practice session

Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the opening practice session for the 11th race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Honda Indy Toronto, at Exhibition Place.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon started off the weekend of the 17-race 2019 IndyCar season’s 11th race, the Honda Indy Toronto, at Exhibition Place on the right track, as he topped the speed chart in the opening practice session for this race.

The defending Honda Indy Toronto winner topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 61.0723 seconds (105.2785 miles per hour) around the 11-turn, 1.786-mile (2.874-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in his #9 Honda.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden finished in second place in this practice session as the session’s highest finishing Chevrolet driver in his #2 Chevrolet. His best lap time was 61.2138 seconds (105.0351 miles hour), which was just 0.1415 seconds (0.2434 miles per hour) slower than that of Dixon.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist and Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud rounded out the top five by finishing in third, fourth and fifth place in their #27 Honda, #10 Honda and #22 Chevrolet, respectively.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay finished in sixth place in his #28 Honda ahead of Team Penske’s Will Power in seventh in his #12 Chevrolet, Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais in eighth in his #18 Honda and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato in ninth in his #30 Honda.

Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He rounded out the top 10 by finishing in 10th place in his #21 Chevrolet.

The second practice session for the Honda Indy Toronto, the 11th race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, is scheduled to take place this afternoon beginning at 3:15 p.m. ET, and the third and final practice session for this race is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET. Both sessions are set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold, with the broadcast of the latter set to begin five minutes earlier than its scheduled start time.

NBC Sports Network is set to broadcast the qualifying session for this race live tomorrow afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. The warm-up session for the race is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 14, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 3:35 p.m. ET later that afternoon, and NBC Sports Network’s live coverage of it is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
