IndyCar: Ryan Hunter-Reay tops second 2019 Laguna Seca practice

Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the second practice session for the 2019 IndyCar season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in the second of three practice sessions for the 17th and final race on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey, at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Hunter-Reay topped the speed chart in this practice session for this 90-lap race by recording a top lap time of 69.9105 seconds (115.2445 miles per hour) around the 11-turn, 2.238-mile (3.602-kilometer) WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca natural terrain road course in Monterey, California in his #28 Honda.

Hunter-Reay led a top three Honda sweep in this practice session, as he led rookies Felix Rosenqvist of Chip Ganassi Racing and Colton Herta of Harding Steinbrenner Racing. Rosenqvist and Herta finished in second and third place in their #10 Honda and #88 Honda, respectively.

Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud was the fastest Chevrolet driver and the fastest of the four championship contenders in this practice session. He finished in fourth place in his #22 Chevrolet ahead of Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci in fifth in his #19 Honda.

Two of the other three championship contenders, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, finished in sixth and seventh place in their #2 Chevrolet and #9 Honda, respectively.

Team Penske’s Will Power, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Marcus Ericsson and Carlin’s Charlie Kimball rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #12 Chevrolet, #7 Honda and #23 Chevrolet, respectively.

The other championship contender, Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi, finished in 23rd place in his #27 Honda.

The qualifying session for this race is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network later tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET, and it is scheduled to get underway shortly thereafter at 4:35 p.m. ET. The race itself is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 22, and it is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m. ET.
