Formula 1: Valtteri Bottas takes pole for 2019 United States Grand Prix

Valtteri Bottas took his fifth pole position of the 2019 Formula 1 season for the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Valtteri Bottas took the pole position for the 19th of 21 race on the 2019 Formula 1 schedule, the United States Grand Prix, at Circuit of the Americas. This pole position is his fifth pole position of the season, second only to Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc with seven.
Bottas took the pole position for this 56-lap race around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas by recording a top lap time of 92.029 seconds (134.058 miles per hour) in the third and final round of qualifying for this race.
Set to start alongside Bottas in second place is Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, whose top lap time in this third and final round of qualifying was just 0.012 seconds (0.018 miles per hour) slower than that of Bottas at 92.041 seconds (134.040 miles per hour).

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen qualified in third place, just 0.067 seconds (0.098 miles per hour) off of Bottas’s pace. Leclerc qualified in fourth, just 0.108 seconds (0.157 miles per hour) off Bottas’s pace.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who has a great chance to secure his sixth world championship this weekend, which would be his third consecutive title and his fifth in the last six seasons, qualified in a disappointing fifth place and is set to start alongside Red Bull Racing rookie Alexander Albon in sixth.
McLaren teammates Carlos Sainz Jr. and rookie Lando Norris are set to share the fourth row on the starting grid after qualifying in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo qualified in ninth and is set to start alongside Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly in 10th.
Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat, SportPesa Racing Point’s Lance Stroll and Haas’ Romain Grosjean were eliminated following the second round of qualifying for the race after qualifying in 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th place, respectively.
Alfa Romeo Racing teammates Antonio Giovinazzi, a rookie, and Kimi Raikkonen, ROKiT Williams Racing rookie George Russell, Racing Point’s Sergio Perez and Williams’ Robert Kubica were eliminated following the first round of qualifying for the race after qualifying in 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th, respectively.
Perez, however, is set to start the race from the pit lane as a result of the fact that he missed the weight bridge at the end of the second practice session.
