Despite rumors that legendary former boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is involved in the ownership of a new NASCAR Cup Series team, that alleged team did not appear on the entry list for the 2019 season finale.

Rumors emerged a few weeks ago that legendary former boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be involved in the ownership of a new NASCAR Cup Series team.

The website for the team, The Money Team Racing, for which the domain was registered back in May, previously indicated that they were set to make their debut in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway this Sunday, November 17.

There are social media profiles for the team on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn, and an archived version of the website even contains an image of a #50 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that contains all of the logos, including the Monster Energy logo, that any other Cup Series car features. This is a clear nod to Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 record during his career as a professional boxer.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

But the entry list for this race, the Ford EcoBoost 400, was released on Tuesday, and The Money Team Racing were nowhere to be found on it.

Not only that, but there was no mention of the idea that they were planning to compete in it, nor was there any mention of anything Mayweather-related.

While it would make sense for the website to feature the Ford EcoBoost 400 as the next race on the Cup Series schedule whether they were planning to compete in it or not, this race was listed here several weeks ago, even when it was still quite a few races away.

In fact, for several weeks, the site has said nothing more than “More Info Coming Soon.” on a black and yellow screen that features no other options; it only still references the Ford EcoBoost 400 on the archived version.

This could very well mean that they do, in fact, plan to compete in the Cup Series, just as their social media profiles have indicated and still indicate. But it may just mean that their initial plans to compete in the 2019 season finale did not come to fruition — which they obviously didn’t, provided they actually did exist at some point.

After all, an archived version of a website is hardly the best source of news on a timely subject that hasn’t seen any major — or even any minor — developments in recent weeks. The fact that this detail about the Ford EcoBoost 400 hasn’t been there for several weeks is pretty telling.

With that being said, why not just omit that detail from the site instead of completely overhauling the site to a simple “More Info Coming Soon.” page to the point where absolutely nothing can be accessed outside of the archived version that is naturally the same now as it was several weeks ago?

Will The Money Team Racing ever end up competing in the NASCAR Cup Series? It still can’t be ruled out based on the team’s current social media profiles, particularly their LinkedIn account and one particular detail about how it is set up, and the message displayed on their website.

Plus, given how much money Floyd Mayweather Jr. has, funding would perhaps be the least of their concerns. But right now, nothing has been confirmed, and the whole thing just seems a bit strange.
