NASCAR Cup Series: 2020 full-time driver lineup set

The full-time driver lineup for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season is set, and it features 36 competitors among 19 different teams.

The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season is officially scheduled to get underway tomorrow with the single-car qualifying session for the season-opening Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway, and the race itself is set to kick off the 36-race campaign next Sunday, February 16.

With the offseason between the 2019 and 2020 seasons rapidly nearing its end, the full-time driver lineup has been solidified.

A total of 36 drivers are slated to compete full-time throughout the 2020 season, although there are 38 confirmed full-time entries.

The two full-time entries without full-time drivers are at Spire Motorsports and Rick Ware Racing. Both the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet and the #53 Rick Ware Racing car (Ford for Daytona 500) are among the 36 chartered entries, but not much has been confirmed about either one.

Ross Chastain is set to drive the #77 Chevrolet with support from Chip Ganassi Racing in the Daytona 500 and in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May while David Ragan is set to drive the Rick Ware Racing car in the Daytona 500 (renumbered #36 for this race). Other than that, both cars are still wide open.

As for the 36 full-time drivers, 33 are set to run full-time in chartered entries. Two drivers are set to compete full-time in cars without charters while the plans of one are still not confirmed aside of a non-chartered entry in the Daytona 500.

Timmy Hill is slated to drive the #66 car (Ford for the Daytona 500) for MBM Motorsports and Daniel Suarez is slated to drive the #96 Toyota for Gaunt Brothers Racing.

The full-time driver with plans still up in the air is J.J. Yeley. Yeley was confirmed as one of two full-time drivers for Rick Ware Racing for the upcoming season, but he is not slated to drive one of the team’s chartered cars in the Daytona 500 like fellow full-time Rick Ware Racing driver Joey Gase is.

Yeley is set to drive the #54 Ford instead of the #52 Ford while B.J. McLeod is set to compete in this race with a charter behind the wheel of the #52 Ford.
