Romain Grosjean will not return to Haas for what would have been a sixth consecutive season in the 2021 Formula 1 season.

In a move that many expected was inevitable, Haas have confirmed that Romain Grosjean will not be back with the team in the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Grosjean has driven for the sport’s lone American team since they entered Formula 1 in 2016 when he drove alongside Esteban Gutierrez.

He has driven alongside Kevin Magnussen since 2017, and the team have also confirmed that Magnussen won’t be back next year.

No active teammates have been together longer than Grosjean and Magnussen. The only other pairing that has existed since 2017 is the Mercedes pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. No other active duo existed before 2019.

Here is what Grosjean had to say about his departure.

"“The last chapter is closed and the book is finished. I’ve been with Haas F1 Team since day 1. Five years during which we went through highs and lows, scored 110 points in 92 races, but the journey was worth it.“I’ve learned a lot, improved to be a better driver as well as a better man. I hope I’ve also helped people in the team to improve themself [sic]. This is probably my biggest pride, more than any of the crazy first races in 2016 or the P4 at the Austrian GP 2018. I wish the team all the best for the future.”"

Grosjean has competed in 175 races throughout his Formula 1 career, including 92 for Haas. His career-high finishes of second place came in the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and in the 2013 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas when he was driving for Lotus.

His best finish as a Haas driver is his fourth place finish in the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, a race which saw the team’s best ever result with him in fourth and Magnussen in fifth.

The 34-year-old Frenchman finished in a career-high seventh place in the 2013 driver standings competing for Lotus. As a Haas driver, his best finishes in the standings are his 13th place finishes in 2016 and 2017.

Through the first 11 races of the 2020 season, which has been Haas’s worst season to date, Grosjean sits in 18th place in the driver standings with just one point thanks to his ninth place finish in the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring earlier this month.
