Formula 1: Romain Grosjean addresses fans for first time after fiery wreck
By Asher Fair
Haas Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean has posted a video on his Instagram account addressing his supporters for the first time following his fiery wreck.
Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix Formula 1 race at Bahrain International Circuit had only gotten 36 seconds in before a red flag brought the action to a halt for nearly an hour and a half.
Coming out of turn three of the 15-turn, 3.363-mile (5.412-kilometer) road course in Sakhir, Bahrain, Haas’ Romain Grosjean veered right to avoid debris from contact ahead as well as a car that had gone off track to his left.
That caused his Haas to clip the front of Daniil Kvyat’s AlphaTauri, which sent the Haas careening into the barrier.

Because the barrier was positioned on a straight and not in a turn where you generally see heavy crashes, this barrier was not equipped to handle the impact like a normal barrier would have been.
The impact caused a massive inferno and split the Haas in two, with the front half, the half which contained the cockpit, slicing through the barrier. Fortunately for Grosjean, the halo device took the brunt of the impact to the cockpit area.
A short time ago, Haas released a statement about Grosjean’s condition, noting that all of his X-rays had come back negative and that he had only been diagnosed with burns on the backs of his hands. He is slated to spend the night at Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Hospital.
Now the 34-year-old Frenchman himself has addressed his supporters for the first time since the fiery incident.
He shared this video on his Instagram account.
Grosjean’s status moving forward remains unclear. The final two races of the 2020 season are scheduled to be his final two starts with Haas, as he will not be back with the team in 2021, but it is not known if he will compete in those events.
