Romain Grosjean revealed a secret injury he had sustained prior to his crash in this past Sunday’s Formula 1 race at Bahrain International Circuit when discussing how strong he is with pain.

Romain Grosjean was involved in a nasty accident in this past Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix Formula 1 race at Bahrain International Circuit when his Haas came across the front of the AlphaTauri of Daniil Kvyat.

That sent Grosjean careening into the inside retaining wall, and upon contact, his VF-20 split into two pieces, with the front half slicing through the barrier but getting stuck before completely coming out the other side.

The 34-year-old Frenchman was able to emerge from the blazing inferno in just 28 seconds despite having been “at peace” with potential death as the crash unfolded and as he sat in the flames with very little room to get out of the cockpit.

The crash left him with burns to the backs of his hands, but he was not left with any other significant injuries.

He stayed in the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Hospital in Riffa for only a couple of nights before he was released.

He will not compete in tomorrow’s Sakhir Grand Prix at the outer layout of the same venue as he continued to recover from his burns, as Pietro Fittipaldi is set to replace him, but there is still a chance that he will return for the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit, which would be his final start for Haas since rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin are set to compete for the sport’s lone American team in 2021.

When discussing the shunt and how strong he is when it comes to dealing with pain, Grosjean revealed another injury which he suffered recently but hadn’t disclosed until now.

Here is what Grosjean had to say about this separate injury — a broken hand.

"“I’m joking, I’m happy, but the pain the last two days has been high. I’m quite strong with pain, I broke my hand earlier this year falling down in the kitchen and I haven’t told anyone. It was an open break, two bones, and I went to the hospital and the pain was OK, so I am very strong with some pain. Fever I am not good with. If I have got 39C of fever I am going to die. But I am OK with that type of pain.”"

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 13 and will hopefully provide Grosjean a chance to end his Formula 1 career on a high note.
