Scott Dixon’s first win of the 2021 IndyCar season at Texas Motor Speedway helped him break an all-time record held by A.J. Foyt.

When Scott Dixon won at Texas Motor Speedway to open up the 2020 IndyCar season en route to winning his sixth championship, it marked his 16th consecutive winning season and his 18th winning season overall.

His consecutive winning seasons mark was already an all-time record before he secured that victory, but his overall winning seasons mark tied the all-time record which had been held solely by A.J. Foyt.

He started tonight’s 212-lap race around the four-turn, 1.44-mile (2.317-kilometer) oval in Fort Worth, Texas in third place behind the wheel of his #9 Honda.

Two laps into the race, he had worked his way up to the lead, passing teammate and race polesitter Alex Palou, and he never relinquished that lead except during pit stops, leading a total of 206 laps. With his fifth career win at Texas Motor Speedway, fourth in the last seven years, third in the last four and second in a row, Dixon has now won at least one race in a record 19 seasons, breaking Foyt’s record.

He also extended his consecutive winning seasons record to 17.

Among active drivers, Team Penske’s Will Power ranks second behind Dixon in both consecutive winning seasons and overall winning seasons. He has not won yet this year, but he entered the season with at least one victory in 14 straight years.

Dixon, whose 51 career wins rank just one behind Mario Andretti for second place on the all-time list behind Foyt’s 67, is set to go for his second win of the 2021 season and sixth at Texas Motor Speedway, which would be his third in a row at the track, tomorrow in the XPEL 375, which is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET.
