IndyCar: 2021 Indianapolis qualifying – Full starting lineup

The starting lineup for the 2021 IndyCar season’s fifth race, the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, is set following Friday’s qualifying session.

Like the other two qualifying sessions that have been contested so far in the 2021 IndyCar season, the session to set the starting lineup for the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course was intense and came down to the wire.

It was Dale Coyne Racing with Rick Ware Racing rookie Romain Grosjean who secured the pole position, the first of his IndyCar career in just his third career start, for the season’s fifth race. He is the fifth different polesitter of the season.

Grosjean took the pole position for this 85-lap race around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Speedway, Indiana by recording a top lap time of 69.4396 seconds (126.447 miles per hour) in the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session behind the wheel of his #51 Honda.

It was a Firestone Fast Six qualifying session that did not feature many of the usual contenders, save for Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, who qualified in second place behind the wheel of his #2 Chevrolet alongside Grosjean on the front row.

Set to share the second row are Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey in third place behind the wheel of his #60 Honda and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou in fourth behind the wheel of his #10 Honda.

Set to share the third row are Team Penske rookie Scott McLaughlin in fifth place behind the wheel of his #3 Chevrolet and Ed Carpenter Racing’s Conor Daly in sixth behind the wheel of his #20 Chevrolet.
