Follow along with our live qualifying updates for the 17th race on the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, the inaugural Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.

For just the fourth time in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, a qualifying session is slated to set the starting lineup for a race.

So far this season, this has only happened at Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona 500 back in February and at both Circuit of the Americas and Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.

There were supposed to be heat races to set the starting lineup for the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway in late March, but they were called off due to rain.

The qualifying format used for this afternoon’s race, the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, is a single-lap, single-car format.

More from NASCAR Cup Series

Each driver gets one lap, and the speeds from those laps set the starting lineup. This marks just the second time such a format has been used this season.

The Daytona 500 uses a single-lap, single-car qualifying format, but only to set the front row; the Duels determine the full starting lineup. Circuit of the Americas used a typical two-round road course qualifying format. Charlotte Motor Speedway is the only other track that has used a single-lap, single-car qualifying format so far this season.

Who will qualify where throughout the field for this 300-lap race around the four-turn, 1.333-mile (2.145-kilometer) oval in Lebanon, Tennessee? Follow along with our live qualifying updates to find out.
