IndyCar: Major announcement coming later this morning
By Asher Fair
An IndyCar announcement is set to be made in Iowa later this morning involving Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Hy-Vee.
Later this morning at 11:30 a.m. ET, IndyCar and midwestern supermarket company Hy-Vee are slated to hold a press conference at The Ron Pearson Center, adjacent to Hy-Vee’s corporate office, located at 5820 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.
This press conference is slated to featured the following individuals:
- Randy Edeker, Chairman, CEO and President; Hy-Vee, Inc.
- Roger Penske, Founder and Chair; Penske Corporation
- Bobby Rahal, Owner; Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
- Graham Rahal, Driver; Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
- Honorable Kim Reynolds, Governor of State of Iowa
It is believed that this press conference has to do with the return of Iowa Speedway to the IndyCar schedule for the 2022 season.
After hosting races each season from 2007 to 2020 (one in every year from 2007 to 2019, two in 2020), the four-turn, 0.894-mile (1.439-kilometer) oval in Newton, Iowa was left off of this year’s calendar, and there were an all-time low of just three ovals (four total races) included on the schedule.
The press conference will be livestreamed on Hy-Vee’s Facebook page.

There have also been rumors that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will finally be adding a third full-time car for the 2022 season after years of trying to get to this position.
They have fielded a third car, the #45 Honda, alongside the #15 Honda and #30 Honda in select races this season with sponsorship from Hy-Vee, and they are believed to be on the way to doing so with sponsorship from Hy-Vee. This is still expected to be the case, but this announcement will not be specific to that topic.
IndyCar is scheduled to run the fourth and final oval race of the 2021 season this Saturday, August 21 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. This race, the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
