There is no clear favorite to win the 106th running of the Indy 500 following Sunday’s two qualifying sessions at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon took his fifth career — and second consecutive — pole position for the Indy 500 on Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Despite the fact that he only advanced to the Top 12 Qualifying session with the 10th best average speed in his four-lap qualifying attempt around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) oval in Speedway, Indiana on Saturday, he posted the fastest four-lap average speed in the Top 12 Qualifying session to advance to the Firestone Fast Six.

In the Firestone Fast Six (full results here), he blew everyone away, posting a four-lap average speed of 234.046 miles per hour behind the wheel of his #9 Honda, the all-time record for a four-lap qualifying speed at the Brickyard.

A full starting lineup is available here.

It should come as no surprise that the 2008 Indy 500 champion is listed as the favorite to win the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” for the second time.

However, given the competitiveness of this year’s field, in addition to the fact that only one of the last 12 Indy 500 races has been won by the polesitter, he isn’t as big of a favorite as you might expect.

In fact, Dixon was the heavy favorite to win the race last year before disaster struck in the pits early on and he could not fully bounce back.

Dixon is listed by WynnBET as the favorite at +500 (bet $100 to win $500) just ahead of teammate Alex Palou, who qualified in second place behind the wheel of his #10 Honda, at +650.

Palou finished runner-up to four-time winner Helio Castroneves of Meyer Shank Racing in last year’s race. Castroneves is listed at +2250 after qualifying in a disappointing 27th behind the wheel of his #06 Honda.

DragonSpeed/Cusick Motorsports’ Stefan Wilson still doesn’t have odds listed. He is set to start the race in 33rd (last) place behind the wheel of his #25 Chevrolet, despite the fact that he did not make a qualifying attempt on Saturday afternoon as a result of a mechanical issue.

Two big changes to note relate to Ed Carpenter Racing teammates Rinus VeeKay and Ed Carpenter. Ed Carpenter Racing always bring great speed to the Indy 500, yet VeeKay started out with odds of +2250, with Carpenter listed at +4000.

Hopefully you took our advice and put money on them at those odds and didn’t wait until now, with VeeKay now listed at +900 and Carpenter now listed at +1200.

VeeKay qualified on the outside of the front row in third place for the second consecutive year behind the wheel of his #21 Chevrolet, and Carpenter qualified on the inside of the second row in fourth for the second straight year behind the wheel of his #20 Chevrolet.
