After a delay of about an hour, IndyCar was finally able to get Saturday afternoon's Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250 underway at the Milwaukee Mile in dry conditions, but those conditions did not last long.
After a yellow flag stint of about 30 laps took the 250-lap race around the four-turn, 1.015-mile (1.633-kilometer) West Allis, Wisconsin oval to lap 90 and conditions only worsened, IndyCar threw the red flag.
For the next several hours, track drying efforts gave IndyCar hope that they could run the rest of the race, or at least get to halfway, before sundown; Milwaukee does not have track lights. But the track was unable to be dried in time, and the remainder of the race was shifted to Sunday morning.
IndyCar changes Milwaukee schedule again, due to more rain
Now the 250-lap race two of the doubleheader is scheduled to take place before the final 160 laps of race one.
More rain on Sunday morning prevented IndyCar from continuing Saturday's race as planned, so the series has moved the rest of that race from 9:00 a.m. ET to 6:00 p.m. ET, with live coverage on Fox Sports 1. The Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250, meanwhile, is still scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m. ET, with live coverage still on Fox.
The starting lineup for the afternoon race was determined by the second lap of Saturday morning's qualifying session. The restarting lineup for the evening race is set to be what it was at lap 91 of 250 on Saturday, when the race was red flagged.
IndyCar has not run two races in the same day since July 2014, when the Saturday race of a street course doubleheader in Toronto was moved to Sunday morning before the regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon race. Notably, race one was finished before race two on that particular occasion.
This schedule still remains subject to change due to weather.
