For the first time since 2017, there is a NASCAR Cup Series postseason race on the schedule at the Charlotte Motor Speedway oval, rather than the Roval. The Roval hosted a playoff race each year from 2018 to 2025, with the 2018 race marking the first ever appearance of a road course on the 10-race postseason calendar.

Sunday's 267-lap Bank of America 400 around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Concord, North Carolina is a race that fans have long wanted back, specifically as races during the Next Gen era on the Roval were relatively lackluster and uneventful.

This race is the sixth of 10 races on this year's Chase postseason schedule, and unfortunately, it became the fourth for which qualifying was not able to take place due to inclement weather.

As a result, the starting lineup was set via the qualifying metric, which put Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Larson, the points leader, on pole, and Joe Gibbs Racing's Chase Briscoe, the winner at Las Vegas Motor Speedway a week ago, beside him on the front row.

Phoenix Raceway, which had hosted the season finale each year from 2020 to 2025, is instead set to host the seventh race on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series postseason schedule. The Freeway Insurance 500 is set to be broadcast live on USA Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 18.
