After missing the first NASCAR Cup Series points race at North Wilkesboro Speedway since 1996 following team owner B.J. McLeod's DNF at EchoPark Speedway (Atlanta Motor Speedway), Live Fast Motorsports returned at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with Daniel Dye behind the wheel of the No. 78 Chevrolet.
Dye had been the team's strongest performer of the 2026 season thus far, after landing a part-time deal with McLeod's team following his departure from Kaulig Racing's Craftsman Truck Series team. He placed 24th in his Cup debut at Talladega Superspeedway in late April and 29th at Pocono Raceway in mid-June, good for the team's two best results of the year.
But at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, he crashed out just past the halfway mark of the Brickyard 400, marking his first career DNF but the team's fourth in eight races this year.
In addition to McLeod's mechanical-related DNF in Atlanta in July, he also crashed out of the Daytona 500 and the other Atlanta race in July. Dye's DNF was the team's first non-last-place DNF of the year, as Kyle Larson crashed out 50 laps before he did.

This weekend at Iowa Speedway, the No. 78 Chevrolet is not on the entry list. In fact, there are no non-chartered (open) cars on the entry list for just the third time in 2026 and the first time since the road course race at Sonoma Raceway in late June.
It marks just the second oval race with no open cars on the entry list this year, with the first being the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in mid-March.
Live Fast Motorsports plan on running two more races in 2026, both with Dye behind the wheel of the No. 78 car. He is set to return for the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway later this month, and he is set to make another start at Talladega in the October playoff race.
Katherine Legge is the only other driver to have driven the No. 78 car this year. She made her first start of the season in May at Watkins Glen International before running the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway as a part of her historic Memorial Day Double attempt. She finished those races in 35th and 31st, respectively.
