Live Fast Motorsports team owner B.J. McLeod turned over his usual superspeedway duties behind the wheel of his No. 78 Chevrolet to Daniel Dye, who competed at Talladega Superspeedway in April and Daytona International Speedway in August and is set to compete at Talladega again next weekend.
McLeod had run 30 consecutive superspeedway races (if you include the two Daytona 500 DNQs) since Live Fast Motorsports entered the sport in 2021.
Despite having no more starts lined up for 2026 with his own team, however, McLeod did something he has rarely done in the past and joined a new team for this past weekend's race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Driving the No. 44 NY Racing Team Chevrolet, which hadn't been entered since the August Daytona race when Joey Gase made his second start of the year, McLeod finished 33rd at Charlotte.
B.J. McLeod, NY Racing Team not competing at Phoenix
McLeod's Charlotte start was his first in the Cup Series with a team other than his own since he competed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for MBM Motorsports in July 2024. Prior to 2024, he had not previously competed for a team other than Live Fast Motorsports since before the team's Cup Series debut in 2021.
This weekend, however, neither McLeod nor the No. 44 Chevrolet are on the entry list at Phoenix Raceway, and the No. 78 Chevrolet isn't either.
NY Racing Team currently have no plans to run the No. 44 car again before the 2026 season ends, although this could change. As for McLeod's No. 78 car, the team have no plans to field it again in 2026 after Dye runs it at Talladega next weekend.
The only non-chartered (open) car on the entry list for Sunday's 312-lap Freeway Insurance 500 around the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) Avondale, Arizona oval is the No. 67 23XI Racing Toyota, which was not initially supposed to be entered. Corey Heim is set to make his 12th start of the year in that car.
The Freeway Insurance 500 is set to be shown live on USA Network from Phoenix Raceway beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 18. It is the final race of the year set to be shown live on USA Network. All three races remaining on the 2026 schedule afterward are set to be shown live on NBC, so begin a free trial of FuboTV and don't miss any upcoming playoff action!
